Undefeated Season Crushed by Meatheads; WWGRD Falls 2-1

Entering their game on November 25th, WWGRD was sitting at the top of the tier 2 standings of the UWIHL standings with a nearly flawless record of 4-0-1, but they knew they would be in tough against The Meatheads. Once again without two of their top defencemen, WWGRD knew it would take a stellar effort to keep the undefeated season alive, and that's exactly what they got from the Woodslee Wall early and often in this game. The first half of this game was spent almost exclusively in the WWGRD defensive zone, with the team rarely giving Johnny Tracey any time to breathe. The wall held sturdy however, not letting the pressure past him until The Meatheads got a somewhat flukey goal by him. With the attacker coming down on him, JT went for the poke check and knocked the puck off of the Meathead's stick, but the puck bounced up and off of the players body and sat there for another player to pounce on and put the games first goal into the open cage.

The Meatheads would solve Johnny once more before WWGRD could finally get one behind the Meathead tendy. WWGRD picked up their play in the second half, peppering the tendy with shots desperately trying to get that all allusive first goal. The tendy was putting on a Woodslee-Wall-like performance, turning aside everything that WWGRD threw at him, until the team's three leading scorers combined to put the boys on the board. Maintaining pressure their whole shift, the line of D. Berthiaume, Pekar and Pancerny were finally able to solve the Meathead back stopper. On a scramble out front, Berthiaume took a whack at the puck which bounced off of the leg of Pancerny and over to Riley Pekar on the short side of the net. With the tendy out of position entirely, Pekar took his time to settle the bouncing puck before popping it in and giving the boys some hope. However, this would turn out to be false hope, as thanks to more stellar play from the Meathead tendy and a questionable call by the referee late in the game, WWGRD was not able to find the game tying goal and would lose their first game of the season 2-1.

Captain Marc Berthiaume spoke to the media following the game about his team's efforts. "We were running around in our own zone a lot in the first, weren't really able to sustain any pressure and Johnny really gave us a chance to stay in this one." He however was a bigger fan of his team's effort in the second half, "I really think we turned it on in the second and gave them our all. Their tendy stood on his head and he earned the two points out there for them. I'm proud of the way we responded out there though and I'm looking forward to seeing the effort we put out next game." Members of the media then caught up to Dylan Berthiaume as he was heading into the shower, and asked him if he was happy with his performance and his team's effort out there. He gave them a deep stare and said, "We fucking lost didn't we? What the fuck do you think then?" He then dropped his towel in the middle of the scrum and bare-ass walked away from the media, cameras flashing, and into the shower. WWGRD takes the ice next on Sunday, December 1st at 10pm against the Angelwood Jacks. After a successful October and November, WWGRD will look to finish off their last game of the first half strong before the Christmas break.
