WWGRD Keeps on Rolling Over Team Sketch

Coming in hot with wins in 3 straight games after tying their season opener, WWGRD was looking to continue their early season success with a late-night match up against Team Sketch last Wednesday. The team was looking even better than usual, as new additions Riley Pekar and Brent Lozinsky finally were given their official team jerseys, and veteran Dylan Berthiaume debuted his new number 49 and his well-deserved 'A' that had been added to his jers. WWGRD would get the first goal and it would be a reliable offensive source putting the team on the board first.

With two of their regular defenceman missing, Dan DiCarlo was pumped back to D once again for this match-up, and this game was one of his best in a blue jersey. DiCarlo controlled the puck down low, fighting off defenders in the Team Sketch zone, working and waiting for a teammate to find an opening for him. He eventually found Sean Micelli, one of the teams undisputed leaders in the slot, who quickly let a snapper go that beat the Team Sketch tendy low on the glove side to give WWGRD the games opening lead. Unfortunately, this lead was short-lived. A Team Sketch forward came down on Eric Bauer on a 1-on-1 and made a sweet move through the defenders legs before beating a sprawled Johnny Tracey and tying the game at 1s. It was now time for one of WWGRD best offensive players in this young season to give the team back the lead they deserved.

The somewhat undersized but immensely talented line of Pancerny-Pekar-Lozinsky connected for the games third goal. Riley Pekar deflected an entry pass onto the stick of Brent Lozinsky who flashed some impressive Primrose chem with a sweet pass to neighbour Brandon Pancerny in the slot. Pancerny then ripped a shot similar to the one by Micelli earlier in the game passed the tendy to restore WWGRD's lead. The enslaught would continue with a beautiful goal by a player who is not necessarily known for having silky mitts. Captain Marc Berthiaume cleared a won face-off along the boards where Brandon Pancerny chipped the puck passed the defender at the blue-line. A hand pass by Dylan Berthiaume went undetected by the referees when he attempted to swat the puck onto his own twig but it landed on the stick of Michael Nantau instead. Nantau then flashed an impressive dangle on the Sketch defender before beating the tendy to give WWGRD the games first two-goal lead.

WWGRD wasn't done with the beauty goals there however. Pancerny took a breakout pass from Joshua Covelli, who had another stellar game on the back end, and showed off the mitts he is known for, cutting into the middle and making the defender look foolish. He then fired a shot back across the far side, catching the goalie moving too far over and stretching the lead to 4-1. Perhaps the nicest goal of the night was saved for last, and it was scored by the only player who has found the back of the net more time than Pancerny in the 2013/2014 season. The mustachio madman Dylan Berthiaume, rocking the freshly pressed 'A' on his jers, flew down the right wing, toe dragging and sliding the puck between the legs of the defender as he jumped around him, creating a mini break between only him and the goalie. With the Sketch tendy staying low to take away the bottom half of the night, D Bert popped one bar deezy to stretch the lead to 5-1. Team Sketch would get a late goal to make it 5-2, but that wasn't nearly enough to get them back into this game.

The media spoke to WWGRD's two leading scorers so far this season, Brandon Pancerny and Riley Pekar, who have 8 and 7 points respectively, following the team's win about their early success in the season and both were quick to give credit elsewhere. Pancerny was short and sweet, saying "I just gotta give the credit to my line mates, they do a good job of getting open and finding me when I'm open." Pekar had a similar message, saying "Everyone on the team knows what it takes to win game and we're bringing that kind of mentality every night. The guys are getting in the right spots for me to dish them the puck, and if nothings open I can take it myself. We have a lot of options offensively." The red-hot WWGRD hits the ice again on Monday, November 25th at 11pm where they will be taking on the Meatheads.
