Ties Are For Father's Day... And WWGRD

It was another single point for WWGRD at Adie Know arena last night. They faced the Pro Bonos following their long lay-off for reading week, a team that is ahead of them in the standings. WWGRD started off hot when Brandon Pancerny hit the post about 15 seconds into the game. Not phased by the early let down, WWGRD kept the pressure up and call-up Riley Pekar gave the team an early 1-0 lead. Pekar was hit with a pass when entering the zone by Dylan Berthiaume who retrieved the chip out off the boards from Eric Bauer to start the play.

Alex "All Swedish, No Finish" Djordjevski was WWGRD's
player of the game last night, recording 1 goal.
The Pro Bonos didn't back down however and tied the game up at ones shortly after WWGRD took the lead. WWGRD bounced back strong however as Alex Djordjevski put one in the back of the net off a beautiful shot to give the boys the lead again. Djordjevski had arguably his strongest game as a WWGRD member and was all over the ice. Déjà Vu hit the boys hard however as the Pro Bonos scored a quick bounce back goal to tie the game up again. Fill in defenceman Marc Berthiaume pinched on a pass attempted at the blueline and whiffed which lead to an odd man break the other way, and when a sprawling Eric Bauer slid into the net, Jonny Tracey didn't stand a chance to stop the rebound attempt. Although it seemed that Bauer had knocked the net off before the puck crossed the goal line, the goal stood and it was all knotted up at twos going into the second half.

The boys held true to their play all season long and came out strong in the second half, hemming the Pro Bonos in their own zone shift after shift, but couldn't get the final bounce they needed for the go-ahead goal. The Bonos seized their opportunity and squeaked one passed Tracey on a rush the other way to take their first lead of the game, 3-2. WWGRD kept the pressure up after the disappointing turn of events, and finally got a bounce to go their way. The puck found its way back to Douggie Lambier at the point who let a clapper go. The puck bounce off a defender, off the goaltender and hit Brandon Pancerny in the chest before falling at his feet for him to smack into the gaping cage. WWGRD kept the pressure on strong, but weren't able to net a late go-ahead goal, and the Pro Bonos almost took advantage yet again. As the seconds ticked off the clock there was a mad scramble in front of the Blue and White goal, bodies and sticks everywhere digging for the puck but Johnny Tracey stood strong and kept the rubber out. The game ended in a 3-3 draw.

The boys deserved a better outcome by held their heads high after leaving the game with one point. The last regular season game goes down next Sunday, March 4th at 10pm. WWGRD looks to boost the playoff seeding one last time when they take on the #1 ranked Big Rigs.

Head Coach Dylan Turnbull and forward Dylan Berthiaume were made available to the media for a breif press conference following the game. The two Dylans talk about each other's contritubtions to the team, what happened last night, and what the future has in store for WWGRD. You can view the presser below.
